LET US SHED SOME LIGHT ON GOING "GREEN"
GREENERGY: Our concept for improving energy efficiency and helping to protect the environment

The production and inefficient consumption of electricity is environmentally costly and wasteful financially. At Excel Electrical Technologies one of our goals is to stay up to date with the latest and most advanced technologies so that we may provide you with ideas and solutions to assist you in making your home or business more energy efficient by helping to lower utility cost and reduce your carbon footprint.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy approximately 25% of the electricity produced in the United States is used for interior lighting. In many schools the cost of lighting is only second to payroll. Based on this data we believe that upgrades to lighting systems will give the most return on your investment and in most cases it will pay for it self in approximately 2 to 4 years.

Solar Energy Systems is an alternative energy solution that will help you to produce clean energy and reduce your dependency on the electrical utility companies.

HOW DOES SOLAR POWER WORK?

Solar power works by converting sunlight directly into electricity, which we can use to power our homes, businesses and cities. But this amazing feat does not happen by magic. It takes a careful mix of chemistry, physics, engineering, manufacturing, electrical work and some good old-fashioned labor.
The process begins with the solar cell. This scientific creation is the base from which the solar panel is built. Solar cells contain one or more semiconductor materials that are able through their makeup and positioning to convert sunlight into electricity. Solar cells are then strung together in groups and encased in solar panels. These solar panels are shipped to your location, where they are mounted by qualified installers onto your rooftop or some other mounting system.
Once installed, those panels are wired together in series to form a solar array. The electrical current running through these wires must pass through an inverter, where the direct-current (DC) electricity created by the solar panels is converted to alternating-current (AC) that is usable in the home. Most solar systems are grid-tied, meaning that excess solar electricity is funneled back into the grid. Homeowners can earn credits toward electricity used at night when the sun is down and the solar panels are inactive.

HERE ARE SOME ENERGY SAVING TIPS:

  • Replace standard incandescent light bulbs with CFL’s (compact fluorescent lamp) or LED’s (light emitting diode). The use of these types of bulbs will reduce your lighting costs significantly.

  • Unplug electronics and appliances that have a sleep, stand-by setting or indicator lights when they are not in use or use a basic power strip to manually switch off these items.

  • Use your washing machine, dryer or dishwasher only when you have a full load.

  • Make sure you only purchase energy star rated appliances and lighting also pay close attention to the label that specifies the energy usage data.

  • Use ceiling fans instead of or in addition to air conditioning units by circulating the air, this creates a wind chill and can cost effectively lower the room temperature several degrees. During the colder seasons reverse the rotation of the blades to recycle and reuse the wasted hot air that has risen to the ceiling.

  • Retrofit old T-12 fluorescent light fixtures with energy efficient instant start T-8 lamps and ballasts. This allows you to power 4 bulbs per ballast instead of only 2 therefore giving a significant pay back in energy savings.

  • Install motion sensors, timers, and dimmers: Devices that turn off the lights for you such as motion sensors and timers, help minimize electricity usage. Dimmers allow you to regulate the brightness of your lights, control how much power they consume and extend the life of the bulb.

  • The heating of your entire home or office is costly and in many cases wasteful due to the fact that many rooms are not often used or visited on a regular basis and are heated unnecessarily. With electric baseboard or radiant heaters which heat all objects in its path in much the same manner as the sun warms the earth, you can heat only the rooms that you use and keep the temperature low in rooms that are not used as often or provide additional heat in areas where your existing system does not provide adequate temperature. This would allow you to heat lower level rooms to a comfortable level without overheating the upper levels. Why heat your laundry room, spare bedroom, storage closet or basement at the same temperature as your bedroom, (office reception area, exam room), bathroom or nursery? Save energy and money by only heating the areas that you use most frequently.
